ANNOUNCEMENT: FORUM STANDARDS
« on: December 20, 2017, 04:20:12 pm »
Hello!

I was inspired in part to create this forum by the twistypuzzles forum, a forum for fans of Rubik's Cube, another interest of mine. What intrigued me about their forum was the high standard that they held their members to in terms of ethics and post quality that is unfortunately rare on these interwebs. As a person who has participated in and observed forums before, I am going to be implementing SOME of those rules here, but I am sure that like the mature carbon-based life forms we are that most of this will be obvious to you.

Any form of spam or unnecessary commendation or posts such as a wall of colons that is often seen on other forum sites is prohibited. I am talking about AN EXTREMELY EXAGGERATED version of this, such as a million smiley faces, and YOUR QUICK ONE SENTENCE COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. Repeated spam in this category could result in warnings and suspension from the forum for a period of time.

Additionally ANY form of hate speech is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate permanent ban from this site.

Please also post things within a relevant subforum, if one does not exist just contact me and I will be happy to add one!

Thanks!

Hello!

I was inspired in part to create this forum by the twistypuzzles forum, a forum for fans of Rubik's Cube, another interest of mine.

It is interesting that you mention that. I wrote a 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 Rubik's Cube Solver (stage solving and Brute Force solving). You can see two of my 14-move algs on the 4x4x4 Parity Wiki page.
It is under "Checkerboard" from the "In Opposite Dedges" section:

https://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/4x4x4_Parity_Algorithms

And here is the alg in the block turn metric:

https://alg.cubing.net/?puzzle=4x4x4&type=alg&alg=r2_U2_2R-_e2_2R_e2_2R-_U2_r2

I created a forum for cube solvers, and originally I had the only 5x5x5 solver. Now there are at least 4 of us who have programs to solve cubes, some even larger than 5x5x5. So if you want to join and post questions to programmers, here is that link:

http://cubesolvingprograms.freeforums.net/

And here is my massively parallel 5x5x5 program, solving a tough position with no prior algorithm ever!

You do realize my solving rate was 7.7 Quadrillion nodes per second, right?

:)

It did use an odd technique early on. It would solve the "cross" (middle edges and t-centers) first. Look at this solution:

https://alg.cubing.net/?puzzle=5x5x5&setup=_2R2_2U2_3F-_2U2_2R_B_2F_2L2_2B-_2D_%0A_2F-_2U2_3R_3U-_B2_F2_2R_3F-_2B2_2R2_%0A_2U-_L_2D-_2B2_3F-_2F-_2B_R_3R2_2F2_%0A_L_2F2_3R2_3F2_B_2U_U2_F_2B_2U2_%0A_3U_D_F2_2F_2D-_B_2R-_R2_3U2_2D2_%0A_D_R-_2R_U_2D_B_3R2_3U_3F-_L_%0A_2R-_R-_B2_U2_2F-_3U2_B_2D-_2L2_3F-_%0A_3U_3F-_B-_2F2_D2_2R_F_R2_3F_2D_%0A_2R2_3U_F_U_D2_2D-_2L-_3R_2B_R_%0A_2B2_2D_2F-_2L-_L_U_2D2_L-_2B-_R-_%0A_3F-_D2_3R_3F2_2F-_2U2_2D-_3F_B_3F-_%0A_L2_D_3R-_3U_2B2_R-_2R_3F2_2L-_D_%0A_2B-_2R_B_3R_F2_U2_2R-_3R-_3F_3R_%0A_B-_2F_F2_B2_2B-_3F2_2R2_2D2_2L2_3U_%0A_2D_2F-_B2_2B_2L-_3R2_2B2_3R-_3U_B-_%0A_3R_F-_2U2_L-_2B_D-_3R2_L-_2U2_L2_%0A_2R-_2D-_L2_U2_2L2_U-_B2_3F_3U_3R_%0A_3F2_R2_B_F_U_3R2_3F_D_L-_2D-_%0A_2B-_2L_U_3R-_F-_2L-_3U2_2U_2L2_3F-_%0A_3U2_2L2_F_2D-_3F_F2_3U-_L_2D-_L-&title=scramble%20%236&alg=1U-_4U-_2R2_4U_1R-_4U_2R2_3U-_5R2_5U2_5F-_3R2_1F_2U_2F_3R-_2U-_5F_3U2_1F2_1U%0A1R-_4R2_4F-_1U_4F2_4R2_1U-_4R_4F-_1U2_4R2_1U2_1R_%2F%2F_completed_cross_in_34%0A1F2_1R-_4R_1R_1F_1U-_4R-_1U-_4U_4R_1U2_4U-_1F-_4R-_1F2_%2F%2F_more_centers_in_49%0A2R_3R_4U_2R-_2U2_5U-_2R_4U-_5U2_2R-_2U2_5U-_3R-_%0A2U_4U_5R2_4U-_4R_2U-_4R2_5R2_4U-_4R-_4U_4R2_%2F%2F_centers_midges_and_bunch_of_wings%0AF-_B2_D-_2F2_D_F_B_D-_2F2_D_B_%2F%2Fno_idea_why_the_program_switched_notation__%0AD_2F_D_L2_D-_2F-_2B_D2_2B-_D-_L2_D2_%2F%2F_another_brute_force_alg_nobody_will_ever_use_%0A2D-_2U-_R-_D_R_2D_2U_R-_D-_R_2R2_U_2R_D2_2R-_U-_2R_D2_2R_D2_B_L-_B-_D2_B_D2_L_D2_B-_%0A%2F%2F_ok_that_was_the_longest_cascade_alg_from_the_merger_code%0AL-_F_R-_F-_B-_L_F_L-_B_R_L_F-__%2F%2F_leaving_a_dreaded_parity_but_look_how_the_ai_solves_it%0AD2_2L-_U2_2L_D2_2L-_U2_2L_2R_B2_F2_2L_F2_2L2_F2_2L_F2_2L_B2_2R-_&view=playback

Did you get that from Tony Fischer?

Then just modify and solve the Yottaminx!

"Just" lol.

You know how much stuff I have done for a.i. solving?

1. Solved the longest known optimal win in the game of Checkers. 8-pieces. 293-ply
Red to move and win with 4-8.

2. Solved the longest known optimal win in the game of Gothic Chess. 5-pieces. 535-ply
White to move and win with 1. Qe2.

3. Wrote the first 5x5x5 cube Brute Force Solver (see prior post)

4. Created the first Musketeer Chess Program with optimal win in 55-ply (so far)

That's enough for a little while, isn't it?

:)
