Mafia Kriegspiel
« on: March 14, 2018, 05:29:06 pm »
This is a variant of Kriegspiel I created.

Rules
Each player gets a board of random pieces. None of the pieces in the board are on the same spot as a piece on another board.
Each player gets assigned a role. If that role cannot kill, moves that capture are illegal. (Some unorthodox pieces such as the Withdrawer can get stuck.)
A player dies when they are checkmated by any other player, even by ones of the same faction.
Each day, players can speak to each other.
After discussion, players can vote to kill a player.
Voting each day doesn't happen until a player is killed.
The players are divided into the Mafia and Town.
Actions and piece moves are not allowed during the day and only allowed during the night.
The umpire sends in announcements in secret that may not be shown to other players.
If a move is illegal, the player can choose to make another move.

Roles and Factions
These are simply ideas.

Mafia - Goal is to outnumber Town.
Town - Goal is to kill Mafia.
3rd Party - Everybody else.

Villager - Sided with the town, cannot capture.
Vigilante - Sided with the town, can capture, is told who's piece will be captured.
Psychotic - Sided with the town, can capture, but are not told if they captured a piece or not. Usually show up as Villager to themselves.
Doctor - Sided with the town, cannot capture, prevents captures and checkmates of one person chosen, and reverses that person's board to the previous state.
Cop - Sided with the town, cannot capture, gets the faction of one person chosen.
Inspector - Sided with the town, cannot capture, selects one person and one tile, and is told what piece that tile has.
Mafia - Sided with the mafia, can capture, is told who's piece will be captured.
Roleblocker - Sided with the mafia, cannot capture, but can block a person from performing their action at night.

Announcements
These are given in secret to players by the umpire.
You have the usual announcements and...

"There is a piece here." Applies to players that cannot capture.
"There is a friendly piece here." Applies to players that are attempting to capture a piece of someone they know is friendly.
"Do you want to capture [player]'s piece?" Applies to players which can capture.

You can add more announcements depending on the roles.

"Okay now I can't stop staring at that alien crotch." ubersketch 2k17
